During the 1920's many establishments were being made, and one of them were the speakeasies. The speakeasies were mainly created to sell illegal alcoholic beverages. They were popular during the Prohibition years. During that time the sale, manufacture, and transportation of alcohol was illegal. Those underground palaces were the only way people could buy alcohol.
It was tough to get into the speakeasies, because you had to first locate them and know the password to get in. The owners took a big risk by opening up these speakeasies, but they got rich off of it.This was the time of growth of crimes throughout the US. The Prohibition Act of 1920 included the speakeasies, whose owners made money by bootlegging. Im guessing it was their idea of living life and getting drunk all the time.
